Emotionally Focused Family Therapy helps build connection in families and promote resilience for children by building and broadening secure bonding bonds. The emotion of shame can be a powerful inhibitor for the inherent caregiver system in families.Parental alignment is blocked when caregivers feel unworthy or inadequate. Children often block receiving care when they feel unloved or unworthy of that care. Shame leads family members to retreat and hide, blocking the healing power of therapy.
This workshop investigates how the EFFT therapist conceptualizes shame and the manifestation of various types of shame in distressed families. Using didactic instruction, video demonstration and experiential exercises, participants learn how the EFFT therapist effectively works with shame to unblock the caregiver system and promote safety and security for family members.
This workshop combines didactic instruction, experiential exercises and case examples to demonstrate efft’s practice. Participants are encouraged to bring examples from their casework to explore efft’s application to their own work. Video and/or live demonstration sessions are included.
